What is a vct floor?

Vct is short for (vinyl composition tile.) Vct is a mixture of natural limeshtone, filler materials, thermoplastic binder and color pigments. Made by fusing chips into solid sheets and cutting them into tiles, VCT requires layers of polish to protect its porous surface. Because of this, VCT is not a low-maintenance flooring product. It requires regular stripping, waxing and polishing,

What is vct stripping?

Vct stripping is removing all the dirt and wax from the floor. In preparation for new wax.

What is the process of stripping a vct floor?

You first mix a mop bucket with water and floor striper.

Follow the directions on the box or bucket. If it says 8 ounces per gallon of cold water then that is what to do. More is not always better.

You will apply the floor stripper to the floor. Apply a good amount. Then you will let it set for the recommend dwell time. Then the floor can be scrubbed. With a low speed floor machine with a black pad. For the edges use a rectangle pad called a doodle bug pad. Or a scraper for the stubborn wax build up areas or gum or paint, stickers. Then you either use a shop vac or something to pick up all the slurry mess you just made all over the floor. Then you rinse the floor thoroughly 2 may 3 times to make sure you dont leave any slurry on the floor. Then you are ready to apply wax.

We like to rinse the floor a couple of times with cold water then our final rinse we add vinegar to our water to neutralize the floor.

What wax should you use?

When you look at wax it starts at a low solids to a higher solids. In our experiences the lower the solids the softer the wax. And easier to buff and stretch. The high the solids the more it will hold up to traffic and chairs being moved on it.

How may coats should you apply?

You want to apply 100%.

Ok so here is what I mean, if you are applying a 25% solids wax. you would want to apply 4 coats of wax. 25×4=100 you want to get to as close to 100% as possible to protect you vct floor.
